About Me

IMG_3933.jpg

I am a creative, driven by a desire to inspire through design. With a keen eye for aesthetics, I approach each project with a style-oriented mindset. My design philosophy is rooted in empathy, as I believe understanding the user community and the essence of brands is crucial for crafting meaningful, memorable solutions.

My goal in VDA is to become more familiar with Illustrator and its various tools, and to learn best practices for creating effective designs. My background in cognitive science, specifically in design and interaction, has allowed me to focus on defining problems and solving them iteratively. To gain more hands-on experience producing visuals, I joined VDA.

A1 - A4 Iterations

A1 : Personal Logo

Made with Illustrator

Jam Logo Iterations(1).png

Over the past year, a significant aspect of my personal growth has entailed learning not to take myself and life too seriously. I've designed this logo to mirror this facet of my personality and capture the style associated with my nickname, "Jam.” I wanted the bright yellow to add a sense of energy to the logo. The font used for the letters is bold and modern, which represents my creative and innovative side. I also wanted to test my ability to work with vectors in Illustrator, so I made a little strawberry guy.

Taking from the notes that I made for myself a couple of months ago, I went ahead and took on the challenge of creating a logo that looked true to my personality with simpler shapes and no smiling face… The colors in this iteration take on the responsibility of communicating playfulness while the simple geometric shapes show that I am structured and ordered.

My bedsheets were a large source of inspiration for the colors actually. I was particularly drawn to the deep teal and how it contrasts well with the other colors.

The logo is a play off of my name’s pronunciation: jay-meh-lin, which sounds vaguely like J - Melon, a common mnemonic device for folks who have a hard time remembering my name. The other iterations you see to the right are ones that I considered before decided on the final logo. I made stickers for myself and my family.

Other iterations are shown below. It took some time to get to the final product, but I’m happy I stuck it through.
